Heavenly Baked Alaska

•4 egg whites
• Salt, pinch
• 1/2 cup (125 mL) fine sugar
• 6 slices jelly roll, cake or brownie, approximately 2” x 2” (5 cm x 5 cm)
• 6 scoops ice cream*, well frozen

Beat egg whites and salt in small bowl until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar 1 tbsp (15 mL) at a time and continue beating until stiff and glossy. Place cake slices on ungreased baking sheet. Top each with ice cream and quickly cover with meringue, being sure to seal edges completely. Swirl meringue into peaks. Keep in freezer until ready to bake. Freeze for at least 1 hour. Bake in a preheated 475°F (240°C) oven until meringue is lightly browned, about 2 to 4 minutes.
Serve immediately.

GÂTEAU ALASKA PARADISIAQUE

Optez pour votre crème glacée et votre gâteau préférés! Pour un résultat plus coloré, choisissez de la crème glacée et du gâteau de couleur différente (p. ex., crème glacée à la vanille sur des brownies).

• 4 blancs d’œufs
• Pincée de sel
• 1/2 tasse (125 ml) de sucre fin
• 6 tranches de roulé à la gelée, de gâteau ou de brownies d’environ 2 pouces par 2 pouces (5 cm par 5 cm)
• 6 boules de crème glacée* bien dure

Battre les blancs d’œufs et le sel dans un petit bol jusqu’à la formation de pics mous. Ajouter graduellement le sucre, une cuillerée à table (15 ml) à la fois, et continuer à battre jusqu’à ce que le mélange soit dur et brillant. Disposer les tranches de gâteau sur une plaque à pâtisserie non graissée. Couvrir chacune des tranches de boules de crème glacée et recouvrir rapidement de meringue, en s’assurant de recouvrir complètement les rebords. Appliquer la meringue en effectuant des mouvements circulaires, de façon à former des pointes. Conserver au congélateur jusqu’à la cuisson pour au moins une heure. Préchauffer le four à 475 °F (240 °C). Cuire au four jusqu’à ce que la meringue soit légèrement dorée, soit environ 2 à 4 minutes. Servir immédiatement.
