Ossie’s Lunch, Bethel (St. Andrew’s), New Brunswick
Ossie’s Lunch is famous and 2017 is their 60th anniversary! Rose Anna Waite, who is in her 80’s and going strong, and her daughter, Angela Tessier, serve Maritime road food at its best — deep-fried clams, lobster rolls, scallops and chips and home made pies, in particular rhubarb custard and New Brunswick blueberry. The clams are from Charlotte County, just down the road; the lobster is from Shediac and the scallops are from Grand Manan. The rhubarb for the rhubarb custard pie comes from the milk man’s mother — he delivers it with their milk order.
A diner and a truck stop, the sparkling white building is ringed with picnic tables. You place your order, get your ticket and the number is announced over a loud speaker when it’s ready. Go early as there are days when the wait can be two hours long.
