Award-winning chef and author Joe Thottungal shares his culinary philosophy through interpretations of traditional Kerala cooking styles combined with seasonal Canadian ingredients. Coconut Lagoon and their culinary team under his leadership are defining a new style of Canadian cuisine representing Chef Thottungal’s lived experience. At the helm of two amazing Ottawa eateries, his newly re-opened Coconut Lagoon and Thali, he connects his past and present without any compromise to flavor or authenticity. Chef Thottungal is an awarded chef with a strong reputation as a community builder. 
Originally from Kerala India, his culinary style is reflective of his roots. Fresh breads, sauces, chutneys, and curries all done in-house. Fresh, bright flavours in a modern spacious setting with high ceilings and a slick clean layout there is also an excellent wine program designed by Ray Joseph. If that was not enough, what sets Coconut Lagoon apart is their commitment to sourcing local where and when ever possible. Combining locally sourced ingredients with traditional Kerala cooking techniques results in a re-imagining of amazing new flavours. You can get delicious samosas or venison in a variety of places around the world, but you might only taste venison samosas, or a variety of other creative imaginative taste experiences, here first.
