Atelier, Ottawa

Atelier, Atelier Ottawa, Canada food, Canadian cuisine

This small, very intimate restaurant doesn’t even have a sign. And why should they? Anyone who’s heard of Atelier knows that their food speaks for itself. Chef Marc Lepine opened Atelier in 2008 after being named Ottawa Chef of the Year not once but twice by the Canadian Culinary Federation. In February 2016 he was dubbed Canadian Culinary Champion in Kelowna B.C. for the second time. And both times, a team of generous Ottawa chefs took over his restaurant so that he could leave. And in 2017 he was named Canada’s Most Creative Chef.

The Food Network wrote had this to say about Chef Lapine’s attention to detail: “Marc and his team are venturing into the territory of molecular gastronomy and, as the servers will tell you, many items are whipped, foamed, dehydrated, freeze dried, cooked sous-vide for hours, spherified, and possibly dropped in liquid nitrogen to finish.”

It’s no surprise that he asks his customers to trust him- the menu changes constantly and no one gets to see it before they dine. Serving a 12-course tasting menu every night, this is no place to grab a quick bite- meals last at least three hours. Food as art is taken to a whole new level at Atelier, which is French for “workshop,” and rightly so.

We’d describe the food…but you’ll have to try it yourself. Just take Chef Lepine’s word for it.  His Food Day Canada Menu will always be extraordinary.
