“It’s been an incredible five years since we opened in 2013,” says Yellow Door Bistro’s original Chef de Cuisine Quinn Staple. Now Executive Chef, he sits at the helm of all food and beverage initiatives under the Hotel Arts Group umbrella. “We want people to continue to think of us for unique and memorable dining experiences. We’ve accomplished so much and we’re looking forward to seeing what we can do in another five years.”  In the early days, he created heart-warming bistro-inspired cuisine for the Yellow Door but his time at Alinea, Grant Achatz’s modernist three-Michelin-starred restaurant in Chicago, has also had an impact on his style.

While celebrating the past, the team at Yellow Door Bistro continues to be focused on bringing new ideas to the table. Though Yellow Door Bistro remains dedicated to offering the European bistro-inspired cuisine it always has, Chef de Cuisine Katarina Edward, who took the reins in 2017, brings a fresh perspective to the restaurant’s menus.

Born in St. John, New Brunswick, Kat then grew up in B.C. around 100 Mile House, Quesnel and later in Vanderhoof where her family raised free-range goats, wild boar, rabbits, cows and poultry. Her family also made much of their food from scratch sourcing as many ingredients from their farm to make breads, butters, cheeses and other items.

Kat’s love for the harvest from the land led her to pursue culinary studies at Okanagan College in Kelowna and she completed her apprenticeships and secured her Red Seal Certification working for Chef Rod Butters at RauDz.

“I grew up on a farm so I appreciate and understand the hard work and effort that goes into where food comes from,” says Edwards. “I want to put emphasis on the incredible local products we have access to while maintaining the spirit of Yellow Door Bistro cuisine.”

Many of her dishes are creatively classic. And where better than in Alberta to dine on the finest steak? Seared beef tenderloin & ribeye make a truly memorable Prairie feast.  They make their own merguez sausages and all the seafood is OceanWise certified.
