Taking its name from the Sims family who owned the original tract of land in the very early 1800′s, Sims Corner Steakhouse, the first authentic steakhouse on Prince Edward Island, has had a colourful past including a stretch during Prohibition as a “conviviality shop.”
Owned by the Murphy family, the menu smacks of local culinary commitment. Kevin Murphy was one of the early, strident supporters of the Atlantic Beef programme and all the restaurant steaks are island-pastured.
Executive Chef Kyle Panton was mentored for years by the restaurant’s former Chef Ross Munro, now the official Brand Ambassador for PEI Beef. Born and raised in Belfast, PEI, Kyle has always
had a love for cooking. He was inspired by him mom and also by the the natural ingredients of PEI. He studied at the Culinary Institute of Canada then hit the road to apprentice in Toronto with of David Lee at Nota Bene and Victor Barry of Splendido and The County General. Ross writes,”Kyle is definitely one of the young guns in the up and coming of age chefs on Canada’s culinary scene.” To nail that opinion to the wall, Kyle recently won PEI Flavours Local Food Award at the Savour Food and Wine Show for his Grilled Island Beef with a PEI Lobster Bearnaise Sauce dish. Sounds spectacular!
