Owner Kelly Mansell writes: Rocket is truly a field-to-fork enterprise once the weather starts to improve! In fact, we have farmer on staff: Donna Smith of Homestead Farm in Markland, NL! Donna initially joined us to produce our wonderful preserves but has now become an integral part of the kitchen, supplying us with loads of vegetables all summer as they become available. We all get excited when Donna and her husband, Byron (their picture at right), start to load in their beets, kale, carrots, fennel and more!  They, in turn, take our coffee grounds to spread on their fields. We also work closely with Brian Kowalski and Evan Murray of Murray Meadows Farm.

She continues: “In the Fall, our chef, Darryl Hammond (below left), sat down with Brian to choose seeds for food Darryl wanted to produce this summer and, so far, we can’t keep up with the demand for our kale salad!”Rocket Bakery Greens 2014

Using their own pie dough recipe for the pastry, their BBQ and rum pulled pork turnover is at the top of their hit parade followed by their fish cakes which, with a twist on the traditional, are baked, not fried. That means that folks with gluten intolerances have yet another item without flour that they can choose from at Rocket.

There are sausage rolls, salads and sandwiches that are ridiculously creative (Turkey-Dinner-on-a-Bun or the Ole Smokey anyone?) and never forget their fabulous cinnamon buns.
