Pluvio, Ucuelet, British Columbia

April 12th was a big day for Ucluelet when B.C. born Chef Warren Barr and his partner Lily Verney-Downey threw open the doors open to Pluvio.

As Food Day Canada chefs go, Warren is the most veteran of the veterans. He was the very first chef in our original roster when he worked at the Inn at Bay Fortune, one of Canada’s pioneers in championing Canadian food and local cuisine.  He moved on to become Executive Chef of The Pointe Restaurant at The Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino where he worked hard for 6 years to define Canadian cuisine and build relationships with local farmers, foragers and fishers, creating a unique West Coast style and fell in love with the wide beaches, the magnificent storms and the rain forest.  Lily is also a veteran of The Wickaninnish Inn having spent the past 9 years working in almost every one of that fabulous inn’s teams.

The name they chose for the restaurant mirrors that love…”Pluvio” comes from the word pluviophile, which means someone who is most at peace in the rain, which is how “we feel out here on the edge of the world.”

In the community of Ucluelet, Norwoods Restaurant was THE place to go for a lovely meal.  Richard Norwood has retired and has passed the culinary torch to Warren and Lily.  The intimate dining room with it’s open kitchen will provide the same refined service for which Richard was known.  And the bonus is that there will be some rooms to house overnight guests.
