Northern Lights Food Festival at Borealis

Northern Lights, borealis guelph, borealis kitchener, canada foodThroughout the month of February Guelph’s Borealis Grille & Bar and Woolwich Arrow Pub are celebrating the various regions of Canada. This week it is the Taste of Quebec with game tourtière. The next two weeks highlight a Taste of the Prairies and then a Taste of the West Coast.

Every year Borealis also hosts an incredibly popular series of Wine-Maker Dinners.

#1 – Feb. 28th – Le Clos Jordanne and Thatcher Farms – $70/person
Le Clos is located on the slopes of the Niagara escarpment near Jordon Station. The winery plants only the Burgundian grape varieties of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Opened in 2006 Le Clos Jordanne has already received rave reviews. Come and meet winemaker Sébastien Jacquey!

Thatcher Farms will be our farm partner this evening. Danna and Adam Thatcher believe in raising animals that yield “healthy choices for your family”. They feed their livestock farm-grown crops and use no hormones or additives. We will be featuring their lamb among some of their other tasty artisanal products.

#2 – Mar. 28th – Kacaba Vineyards and West Grey – $60/person
Kacaba Vineyards are on prime grape growing acreage on the ‘bench’ in Vineland Ontario. This award winning winery is known especially for its distinctive red wines. Currently their labels are found around the world in Canadian Embassies and the Canadian Parliament. Winemaker John Tummon will be our host and will lead us through the 4 wines being tasted.

West Grey Farms is located near the town of Durham and this fourth generation operation is known for its outstanding quality beef. The farm has won gold and platinum awards at the Ontario Finest Meat Competition. The cows are raised on grass and premium grains in a beautiful rural setting. West Grey controls every aspect of their beef production in HACCP certified facilities. Chet Calhoun will be our farm host.

#3 – Apr. 25th – Creekside Estate and River’s Edge Goat Dairy – $60/person
The final dinner in our Winemaker Dinner Series will showcase the “quality obsessed” Creekside Winery. Their philosophy is that wine is for pure and visceral enjoyment. We will be serving both white and red wines from Creekside and will be joined by winemaker Rob Power.

Rivers’s Edge will be featuring some of their award winning chevre and feta cheese. We will also be tasting some fresh goat meat and their delicious summer sausage. Owner Katie Normet, a University of Guelph graduate, trained in Vermont prior to starting her Arthur based farm.
