Pam and Read of Ontario, Canada

Once again I’m sure Food Day Canada was a cross country success and in a small way, Read and I participated. I’ve been busy testing and preparing recipes using northern game and from that came our rather non-traditional Canadian entrée last Saturday night – Muskox Kebobs with onions, peppers and mushrooms (all local of course, except for the muskox).Sides were all from the North Gower Farmers’ Market: tiny new potatoes with butter and fresh dill, steamed tiny carrots and grilled foil-wrapped green and yellow beans with fresh summer savory. For dessert a tart made with fresh B.C. blueberries, local raspberries and the last of the frozen peaches from last summer. Happy to see this year’s crop of Niagara peaches is just starting to arrive in our area.

This is the kind of meal that dreams will be made of next winter.
