Our August 1, 2009 feast will be held for a small family gathering. This suits us just fine, as it has been a busy summer with little time to gather together around the kitchen table.
We will begin with steamed Island blue mussels dipped in herb butter. A nice shiny new BBQ is just waiting for boneless PEI pork chops and grilled veggies. Our neighbour’s garden is bursting with fresh romaine and we have been invited to help ourselves. So, we will make a big caesar salad with Canadian bacon and mushrooms.
Our rhubarb is still in fine form, as PEI has been blessed with lots of rain, so there will be a fresh rhubarb pie with ice cream to finish the meal.
Maybe dessert will need to wait until after we take the dog for a walk. The Confederation Trail is just a stone’s throw from our home and is always beckoning us to explore.
