Julie Van Rosendaal of Alberta, Canada

Simple but delicious!

Roasted beet and goat cheese salad – local beets, Fairwinds Farm goat cheese, lettuce greens from the pots on my back patio, and a balsamic vinaigrette made with Highwood Crosssing canola oil and honey from the honey guy at the market.

Grilled bison T-bone steaks (HIGHLY recommend them if you can get your hands on some!) from a friend’s brother’s ranch. If you don’t have a friend with a brother who raises bison, try Valta Bison, Buffalo Horn Ranch or Carmen Creek Bison.

Local new potatoes and chard, and for dessert a blueberry galette – blueberries from our neighbours in BC – in Alberta we do get Saskatoons, but they aren’t quite ready yet due to our late summer and drought. Haven’t seen much in the way of strawberries yet this season either. Here’s hoping for better weather next year!

Happy Food Day everyone!
