Fire up the Grills…it’s BBQ season despite the unrelenting periods of rain. It seems that whenever I light up the charcoal grill, it pours. The rain does not deter my determination but rather causes me to be more innovative in managing the fire.
Once again, I use this event to invite family together for casual grilled local foods. This year, we will be 12 or so and will feast on spice rubbed beef striploin, valley mushroom salad, sweet onions and peppers, fingerling potatoes, romaine hearts and Mum’s oatmeal raisin cookies. All (except the cookies) cooked on either the gas or charcoal barbecues. This year, I will pair this food with wines from the Okanagan. While I was there in May for the Canadian Culinary Federation Conference, I picked up a couple cases of Quails Gate wine. Although the wines may be from beyond my immediate backyard, they are from Canada and for that, I am proud to serve them.
Happy grilling to all that participate in this great event and hats off to Anita for uniting Farmers, Chefs and all Foodies.
