Oysters, roosters, geese and sheep.

We are vacationing in the Maritimes. We’ve been looking forward to our Food Day lunch at Shipwright’s in Margate (Clinton) PEI, so of course we overindulged. No matter. All was fabulous. We started with 1/2 dozen oysters, pureed tomato and basil  soup and a Greek salad made with ingredients brought in fresh from the organic garden outside. After a tasty vegetarian chilli and a baked meat pie accompanied by organic greens and three dressings to die for, we had to take a break. This is where the roosters, geese and sheep come in. We took a stroll in the garden, where many of the menu items grow. Chickens have their own space; geese and sheep are close neighbors. It was not a quiet day in the neighborhood as they tried to outdo each other in the noisemaking department.

We came back to coffee and Chef’s Mom’s Raspberry Cream Cheese Pie with Real Whipped Cream and Nona’s Warm Bread Pudding with caramel and French Vanilla Icecream.  Highlight of the week to be sure. Happy Food Day!
