We celebrated Food Day in Canada with a feast at our family cottage on Dunlop lake, 45 minutes north of the city of Elliot Lake. We have a water access only property 10 miles down the lake totally off the grid! Of course my menu revolves around the bounty close at hand.
The family style dinner consisted of freshly caught lake trout, pretty much from the lake to the pan. Finished with freshly picked wild raspberry beurre blanc. I harvested a deer last fall with a bow and arrow so I had this years food day in mind all winter. Venison tenderloin was the highlight of the meal. Lightly smoked and finished on the grill. Served with local new potato and a rosemary jus. My wife Stacey managed to pick enough blueberries to make a compote for the best ice cream “farquar’s dairy” manitoulin island. Yum! I love the algoma region of ontario it has inspired me my whole life!!
