The 2003 Word Cloud (created from the postings of participants in 2003’s “World’s Longest BBQ”) shows a heavy emphasis on Canadian Beef. This goes to show that Canadians are passionate about their farmers and will gather together on a moment’s notice to support each other in times of crisis.
Food Day 2003: The World’s Longest BBQ
In 2003, The World’s Longest BBQ was created as a response to the closing of the American border to Canadian beef exports. As our largest trading partner, this closure was a devastating blow to many in Canadian agriculture. But, as a nation, we rallied and one of the significant responses was a day-long celebration from coast to coast to coast heralding and supporting Canadian beef and Canada’s rich food history.
Food Day Canada: The First Postings
Food Day Canada 2003 was a momentous year, bringing Canadians from all three coasts together in solidarity with farmers. The idea was simple: at 6:00 PM “Your Time”, fire up the BBQ, invite some friends and celebrate Canadian Food.
