Food Day Canada!
Food Day Canada is a mid-summer celebration of our fabulous northern bounty. It’s about ingredients; it’s about chefs; it’s about producers; it’s about the food of every Canadian, no matter where they live. It is held annually on the Saturday of the August long weekend when, it seems, all of Canada is eating locally.
In 2011, it was held on Saturday July 30th. On that day, and often for more than a week, chefs and restaurants created special menus from their own food shed…from their back yards, gardens and from the fields and waters of Canada.
Canadians were encouraged to head to a Food Day Canada restaurant…or simply create their own menus wherever they happened to be. People across Canada joined in the party…the largest food event in Canadian history.
