CCFCC Canadian Chef of the Year 2011

Willi Franz, traditional canadian food, canada cuisineGreat chefs cook with their heads and their hearts.  Chef Willi Franz is one of them!   It’s wonderful to see him honoured. This month he received some well deserved kudos as the Canadian Chef of the Year 2011 by Canadian Culinary Federation of Chefs and Cooks at their annual Conferernce. As Executive Chef of the Food Day Canada’s Grapevine Restaurant at the venerable Gray Monk Estates Winery, Chef Franz menus are inspired by the extraordinary ingredients of the Valley. He is a wine country chef of the first order. Cooks locally then heads to the extensive Gray Monk cellar to choose just the right wine.

Chef Franz has been honoured for his outstanding contribution to the culinary arts – basically for 40 years of dedication to the food industry.   He was a founding member of the international gastronomic association, Chaine des Rotisseurs, in the Okanagan and Past President of the Okanagan Chefs Association (OCA).

He is also deeply involved in community life from the contribution he’ making with the Junior Chefs of the region and has been the guiding light for events at the Kelowna Gospel Mission which feeds 200 patrons and mounts special events to help the less fortunate.
