The Best Brunch in Canada Award on Food Day Canada

Along the St. Lawrence River, you’ll see weirs designed not for herring as in the Bay of Fundy, but for eels. Today, although not often found on any restaurant menus, eels still are part of the old-fashioned food ways of Quebec, particularly in the Kamouraska region on the south shore of the river. There sturgeon and eel were part of the culinary tradition for as long as the region had been inhabited.

Egg Farmers of Canada is pleased to announce its 2011 Food Day Canada® Award for the Best Brunch in Canada featuring Canada Grade A Fresh Shell Eggs.

Awards will be presented for menus with imaginative dishes that showcase the talents of both the chef/cook and the farmers who supply Canadians with the best food on the planet. In addition to the serious bragging rights that this Award will generate, Egg Farmers of Canada will offer the first-place winner the opportunity to visit and tour a working egg farm.

Egg Farmers of Canada (EFC) is a not-for-profit national organization that forecasts demand for eggs, promotes eggs and develops national standards for egg farming. Our organization came into being in 1972 and was established as the Canadian Egg Marketing Agency under the Farm Products Agencies Act.

We have a 16-member Board of Directors made up of an egg farmer from each province and the Northwest Territories, a representative of the Consumers’ Association of Canada, three representatives from the Canadian Poultry and Egg Processors Council and a Chair of the Board. Our goal is to provide Canadians with a secure supply of high quality Canadian-produced eggs.

En plus de la visibilité bien méritée que nous confère ce prix, les Producteurs d’œufs du Canada offriront au gagnant de la première place l’occasion de visiter une vraie ferme de production d’œufs.

Les Producteurs d’œufs du Canada (POC) sont une organisation à but non lucratif responsable de prévoir la demande pour les œufs, d’en faire la promotion et d’élaborer des normes nationales qui régiront leur production. L’organisation a été créée en 1972 sous le nom d’Office canadien de commercialisation des œufs, conformément à la Loi sur les offices de produits agricoles. Notre Conseil d’administration compte 16 membres, soit un producteur d’œufs de chaque province et des Territoires du Nord-Ouest, un représentant de l’Association des consommateurs du Canada, trois représentants du Conseil canadien des transformateurs d’œufs et de volailles et le président du Conseil. Nous avons comme objectif principal d’assurer que les Canadiens et Canadiennes aient accès à un approvisionnement sécuritaire d’œufs de haute qualité et produits au Canada.
