Zest Restaurant, Fonthill, Ontario
Zest is in the small village of Fonthill smack dab in the middle of Niagara’s finest growing region. Owners Dave Watt and Leigh Anderton, proprietors of Garrison House in Niagara on the Lake, have helped build a loyal clientele with their exceptional local wine list and their ability to woo great culinary talent to work in their kitchen. Tim Hardy is their Restaurant Chef and prior to Tim’s taking charge, Anthony Greco led the team to numerous University Good Food Innovation Awards.
Their menus create a real sense of place from the beautiful foraged salads scattered with wild mushrooms in a bed of frisée to seared Lake Erie pickerel with a rye bread crust, sweet & sour leeks and rösti. Similarly the wine list is hyper-local.
I love Zest’s open kitchen. Try to get a seat near the action because, if you’re a foodie, you’ll learn a lot. The Niagara chapter of Les Marmitons often holds its foodie meetings there.
