The Rosemont General Store & Cafe, Rosemont, Ontario

Rosemont General Store and Cafe is part of an extraordinary renaissance of this small hamlet which includes The Globe Restaurant. It all revolves around food and hospitality under the guidance of Janice O’Born and her husband Earle who’ve owned a farm in the region for decades.  Their tagline is “One of a kind, not a link in a chain” and it fits so well.

The General Store is an essential stop for anyone heading towards cottage or ski country. Locals even go there for the mail delivered in neat boxes outside the store.

Pick up one of Chef Jason Reiner’s fabulous pies to bake, pick up some of their great breads or better still the perfect tea biscuits; stock up on local butter, prize-winning cheeses, Sheldon Creek yogurts, superb charcuterie or just grab a brick-oven baked pizza.

If, however, you have time for a quick meal, the cafe tables overlook the rolling, often misty Mulmur Hills where all of a sudden, the pace slows a bit and you can relax into country life, even if it’s for a few moments.

Personally, it’s such a joy to see such creativity and dedication to the preservation to this wonderful piece of Ontario’s heritage.
