When Quang Dang, the super chef of Diva at the Met, facebook’d a note about the food at The Apron, I was intrigued. A top restaurant in a Richmond airport hotel seemed somewhat incongruous. But as I did my homework I realized that Hamid Salimian’s credentials were anything but ordinary.
And, after eating there with Vancouver food journalist Nathan Fong, it was clear that his cooking was exceptional! Chef Salimian rose through the ranks at Diva before his tenure at the Westin Wall Centre. His food is really outstanding…a combination of many elements all stirred together with a liberal dose of imagination.
Now it appears that Quang’s praise was a precursor of things to come. Hamid is taking Quang’s place at the prestigious Diva at the Met while Quang is moving at the end of August to the magnificent restaurant, West.
