Savour in the Garden, St. Andrew’s by the Sea, New Brunswick

Chef Haun at Kingsbrae GardensChef Alex Haun is a someone to watch and to dine with.   He has been lured away from his great personally-run restaurant to open Savour in the Garden, the small dining space in Canada’s Garden of the Year 2013, Kingbrae. “I first decided I wanted to be a chef when working in the kitchen at Kingsbrae at the age of 13,” says Haun. “When I was making pastries, my favourite creations at the time, I had artistic freedom with them as with all desserts. When you are just learning, you are so eager and willing to take your creations to the highest level.”

Culinary medals, Canada foodAlex has created a very real niche for himself in the national and international competitive kitchen. The good news is that’s he has been on many winning teams including the 2008 Culinary  Olympics in Germany where the team claimed a Gold and a Silver.  To date Chef Alex has 12 culinary Gold medals to his name and 5 of them are international wins.

Just down the road from Rossmount Country Inn, Chef Alex uses some of the same small farmers and, of course, the magnificent ingredients of southern New St Andrews, New Brunswick, gardensBrunswick. Fundy lobster (pictured at left with cucumber band and micro greens), Grand Manan red deer, Beausoleil oysters, Passamaquoddy diver scallops, wild chanterelle mushrooms…the list is long and absolutely delicious.

The Kingsbrae Garden Café will continue to serve light, healthful fare throughout the day to garden visitors. Once the clock strikes six however, the Café will transform into a fine-dining establishment with a limited number of seats, creating a far more intimate culinary experience.

“The guests very much like to see the Chef in the dining room,” says Haun. “We will be encouraging all guests to ask me about wine-pairing suggestions. I will be more than happy to make a suggestion. It brings a different dynamic to the dining room when you have the Chef bring you your food. “
