Nick and Nats’ Uptown 21 is an example of how great a locally-inspired restaurant can be. The culinary passion shows. Nick and his team banter back and forth in their open kitchen and between them turn out brilliant, approachable food. A pile of well-read cookbooks is stacked on the bar. Nick and his wife/partner, Nat, ensure that there is a very real connection to the landscape of Waterloo County. It may be basil-scented bison croquettes stuffed with old cheddar and served with a chipotle-blueberry sauce, or a crisp duck confit atop rosemary-roasted potatoes. Their strip loins are dry aged for 50 days. The seasonal desserts are a must!
Their philosophy reads, “Uptown 21 endorses freshness and a local first ideal, wherein we will strive to support our local farmers, local wine and beer producers, area businesses, and community whenever possible,”.

Smoked lake fish with a basil, fennel tip and raspberry salad finished with chili oil
Local soy and maple braised slab bacon with mizuna greens dressed in a truffle – corn vinaigrette
Marinated cucumber salad with fava bean tendrils, old cheddar cheese and garlic bread crumbs
Chilled tomato and roasted pepper soup with garlic-olive oil croutons
Cast iron seared full fat “PPP” Tamshire pork over cheese curd whipped polenta and grilled beans
(add $7 to prix fix menu price for Tamshire)
Braised beef brisket over a new potato-ermite blue cheese gratin and butter bathed sweet peas
Seared whitefish over wild rice, corn and bacon hash with baby bok choy and french beans
Pastry tart with roasted corn, spinach, grape tomatoes, butter roasted brocoli and sheeps milk feta cheese
Strawberry tarte tatin with strawberry whipped cream
Warm crepes with brown butter-corn ice cream and fresh raspberries
