Farmhouse Tavern, Toronto
Describing themselves as “Serving farmhouse hospitality. Rooted in the charming influences of the rural Ontario farmhouse. A little bit country/ A lot rock & roll. Cooking a blackboard menu of farm driven food. Pouring Ontario craft brews + VQA juice.” Sounds like this place was made with Food Day Canada in mind! This year will be their 7th anniversary and also the 7th time they’ve cooked Canadian with us on Food Day Canada.
Owner Darcy MacDonnell (F.O.O.D) Farmboy/Owner/Operator/Director, opened Farmhouse to pay homage to his parents and his rural Ontario roots. He is a one of a kind restaurateur…always ahead of the curve.
Toronto Life named it as one of their 13 best brunch spots and the Toronto Star called it a ‘taste of country heaven’. That was back in 2012 just after they opened. To stay on the leading edge..and remain competitive, takes dedication and tenacity. Chef Ash McNeill and Darcy dreamed up their Sunday evening food ‘auction’ and the media is taking notice, especially Jonathan Bloom from NPR.

Equipped with a herb garden and custom-built tractor-smoker on the patio that they use for vegetables, meat and oysters, don’t let the tractor seats and barn doors fool you. From a vegan “pull” and beet tartare (it may be a carrot on a different day) to the rabbit pasta and the 40 day aged rib-eye or a simple bowl of strawberries and cream, this food rocks!
