Stephen Beckta is one of Canada’s great restaurateurs. There’s a winning combination at work here…his talent and the the team he has built with Chef Michael Moffatt. An accomplished sommelier, Stephen started at Café Boulud working for the celebrated chef, Daniel Boulud, followed by two years with renowned restaurateur Danny Meyer at Eleven Madison Park before returning to his native city. Stephen has been named Top Independent Restaurateur in Ontario by the Ontario Hostelry Institute (2007). As one of the jurors for this Award, I can vouch for the toughness of the competition.
Chef Michael Moffatt is his right hand and the creative force to be reckoned with in the kitchen. His résumé includes NYC’s River Café and Banff’s Rimrock Hotel, and now with Chef de Cuisine Katie Brown Ardington in the Beckta Kitchen, Chef Moffatt divides his time between Beckta Dining and Wine, Play Food and Wine, a small plates restaurant that is on the outskirts of the Byward Market and Westboro’s Gezellig.
