Lovin’ our Lentils & Food Day Canada on PEI

Canadian Lentils, Chef Michael Smith and Food Day Canada teamed up in May to test drive a contest that linked Food Day Canada chefs with our Prairie-grown lentils.

It became an all-out culinary battle and ended in a tie between Charles Part of Les Fougères in Chelsea, Quebec and Norm Aitken of Ottawa’s Juniper Kitchen and Wine Bar.

Canada food Day, Canadian cuisine, Michael SmithWinners were flown to Prince Edward Island to celebrate Food Day Canada and to forage with Chef Smith both on the land and on the ocean.  A friend’s boat was commandeered and the entire happy crew set sail. 

It was a classic PEI summer day!  The kind of day when, no matter where you work on the island, you head to the beach. The sun blazed down and the ocean breezes washed over everyone as the Food Day Canada celebration wound up the Fortune dock. Lobsters were hauled, oysters were shucked, some valiant attempts were made at sabring sparkling wine and lots of lentil dishes were savoured. Check out Michael’s dish here.
