Brooklyn Warehouse InteriorAs a restaurateur George Christakos is dedicated to the Slow Food philosophy which is, in reality, was how he grew up.  He calls is  “cooking like our grandparents.” And then quickly adds, “I feel it is our responsibility to leave the food culture of our region in a better state than when we found it. That’s why everyday we try to push the boundaries, to make comfortable change for our people. We are always asking ourselves what is relevant, and what is coming next. These questions drives the majority of our food, marketing, and service decisions these days.”

Born in Moncton, New Brunswick, she headed the Culinary Institute of Canada at Holland College in Prince Edward Island before moving to Toronto, Ontario to work at the prestigious George Restaurant under Chef Lorenzo Loseto and doing a stage at Canoe Restaurant under Anthony Walsh.  Steph returned home to Atlantic Canada and to Brooklyn Warehouse in 2013 and took the reins three years ago’ continuing the restaurants membership in both Slow Food and Taste of Nova Scotia.

The hallmark of her food is its inventiveness and a dinner menu that changes daily!  Like the food, the wine list is largely local and includes offerings from Benjamin Bridge, arguably one of Canada’s finest new wineries.

And while you’re in Halifax, don’t forget to slip over to Dartmouth, just across the bridge, to check in at Brooklyn’s sister establishment, Battery Park Beer Bar & Eatery.
